Operating since 1954, Xing Long Ju is Kaohsiung's most popular traditional breakfast spot, and on weekend mornings the line stretches down the block. Their specialty is soup buns (tangbao) - similar to xiaolongbao but larger and filled with even more soup and pork. Biting into one requires technique: you nibble a small hole, suck out the hot broth, then eat the dumpling. They also serve excellent egg crepes, soy milk, and other traditional Taiwanese breakfast items. The place has that old-school charm - simple tables, efficient service, and food that tastes like it did decades ago because they haven't changed the recipes. Locals will tell you it's worth the wait, and they're right. It's the kind of breakfast that sets you up for the whole day, filling and flavorful, made with care by people who've been doing it for generations.
